Knowing who to call is often determined by whether your address falls within the City limits. If your home does not fall within city limits, your local government falls under the jurisdiction of LA County.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department
The City of Santa Clarita has contracted with the LA County Sheriff's Department to provide law enforcement for the city. The unincorporated areas, which are within Los Angeles County borders, are also under the LA County Sheriff's jurisdiction. Assistance for law enforcement services are dispatched through the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on the corner of Magic Mountain and Valencia Boulevard, and through substations in Canyon Country and Newhall.

California Highway Patrol
Speed enforcement in the unincorporated areas of the valley fall under the jurisdiction of the CHP.


Los Angeles County Fire Department
Battalions 6 and 17 serve the Santa Clarita Valley.

The City of Santa Clarita encompasses just over 52 square miles of the approximately 200-square mile Santa Clarita Valley. While city ordinances apply, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department provides law enforcement to the entire Santa Clarita Valley.

Residents who live outside of the city limits are governed by the ordinances of Los Angeles County.
