Description

"Neshkinukat: One Who Has Relatives," on display in the Old Town Newhall Library Community Room from August 25, 2017 through January 5, 2018. "Neshkinukat" in the Native American language Luiseño means "One Who Has Relatives," and in the Lakota language translates to "We Are All Related." The exhibit features traditional Native American art as well as abstract work from sixteen artists showcasing the Native American belief that all creation is interconnected and interrelated. The Old Town Newhall Library is located at 24500 Main Street in Newhall.

The exhibit invites viewers to explore the Native American human interrelationship with the four "relatives" of the human peoples: the Stone People, the Plant People, the Animal People and the Spirit World. A variety of mediums will be displayed including ceramics, gourd art, paintings, photographs and mixed media.

A public reception will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Participants are invited to meet the artists and enjoy light appetizers and live music.

In conjunction with the exhibit, a special Crafternoon for school age children will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library. The Native American art inspired craft will invite children to paint their vision of ancient symbols on a useful item to give as a gift or to keep for themselves.
