Are you trying to find the yard and garage sales in Valencia and Santa Clarita? Have you given up, thinking that no one in SCV has anything to sell at a
garage sale? We know the sites people are using to sell their stuff!
Are you wondering if you need a permit to hold a yard or garage sale? Do you wonder if your HOA will allow you to hold a sale?
Where To Find Local Garage Sales
All of these sites will let you add your sale to the list.
If you're looking for a sale, you'll love the way the map displays the location. Click on the little flag and you'll get details on the sale. The list
appears on the right. What I didn't like is that I couldn't limit my results to 5 miles, or just within SCV.
This site shows the map and listings at the same time. It allows you to limit your search to within 1 mile of the city named. You can create a list of
sales you plan to visit.
This site had the least amount of sales listed (3) at the time we checked it. It immediately expanded the results into Los Angeles.
The Local Newspaper
Santa Clarita's local newspaper allows you to browse the garage sales in the area, but the seller needs to purchase the option to add photos. The list
does not have a map option.
We'd be remiss if we didn't include this website. The problem here is that "Santa Clarita Valley" isn't an option in the drop-down list. You'll have to
choose "Antelope Valley" and then ignore "Palmdale" and "Lancaster" results.
After the Sale: Where to Donate Your Stuff
Once the sale is over, organization experts will advise you not to take the items back into your house. So, here is where you can drop it off, but
please check their website for the type of items they accept:
Assistance League of Santa Clarita
Located in downtown Newhall, their mission is to provide new school clothes and shoes to local children in need.
Goodwill Southern California
According to the Goodwill website, your donations "help individuals with disabilities and disadvantages in your community secure sustainable
employment through education, training, work experience and career placement services." At the time of this writing, there were a half dozen donation
centers in the SCV.
The Salvation Army reaches out to help those often forgotten by society: the elderly, veterans, prison ministries, the homeless and hungry. There are
a half dozen drop-off locations in SCV.
Family Promise SCV
If you're one of those people who buy personal and household items in bulk and you're ready to donate them because you have excess, this charity will
be grateful for your donation. Note: They do not accept used clothing and household items. What they do: "Family Promise brings shelter, meals, and
support services to families without homes."
After the Sale: How To Recyle Your Stuff
So you couldn't find anyone to take your old tube TV, camcorder, or turntable? You can drop it off at Best Buy, along with a bunch of other
stuff! Just go to bestbuy.com and type "recyle" in the search box for details.
Will You Need a Permit? Will Your HOA Allow You To Hold a Sale?
Within City of Santa Clarita Limits
Per Municipality Code Chapter 17.67 Temporary Uses garage and yard sales do not require a temporary permit. There are some limitations, including the
number of sales you may hold, which is not more than three in any calendar year, and not longer than three consecutive days.
Unincorporated Areas of Los Angeles County
Regulated by the Department of Regional Planning. Section 22.20.065, subsection C of Los Angeles County Title 22 Zoning Code: permits are not
required and residents may hold up to two sales per calendar year, and not longer than three consecutive days.
If you live in a community with a Homeowners Association (HOA), you will need to check your governing documents prior to holding a garage sale. Some
HOAs do not permit sales outside of regularly scheduled community sales, and will fine homeowners who hold sales outside of these designated sale dates.
